Hutchies inspires the next generation of tradespeople through Statim Yaga Trade Pathways (SYTP) program in Northern Rivers.

Following years of success of delivering various school-based programs on our construction sites, Hutchies has introduced the SYTP program at our Murwillumbah High School refurbishment project.

It aims to broaden the awareness of construction careers among students across northern New South Wales, offering them a glimpse into the diverse opportunities within the industry.

Students can learn of the 70+ pathways in construction that can be made possible through Hutchies.

Hutchies has been the training ground for thousands of builders who started as apprentices and cadets. Our grass roots program provides opportunities for kids to experience construction first hand on a live site. Statim Yaga means start work and it’s our way of giving people a preview for a rewarding future career path.

This initiative is being delivered together with the NSW Government’s Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) program which connects employers with secondary schools to build pathways to training and employment for students.

#Program Highlights

The Statim Yaga Trade Pathways Program is provided by Hutchies Training and features a variety of engaging activities designed to educate and inspire students:

  • Hands-on workshops focusing on decorative finishes, tiling, and carpentry – chosen based on the high level of interest shown by local students
  • Support and discussion with student on topics such as employability, garnering respect on the job, and expectations within the construction industry
  • Students tour Hutchies’ active construction site to see tradespeople in action, providing a real-world perspective on the industry

#Program Structure

The SYTP program runs over 4 days and has so far hosted four separate schools throughout Northern Rivers. Students are selected based on their interest in the construction industry. This targeted approach has given more than 80 students insight into dozens of potential construction pathways possible via Hutchies.

#Students preview their new school

A notable highlight of the program has been the participation of students from Murwillumbah High School. They have the unique opportunity to witness first hand progress of their own school’s construction. This experience is particularly meaningful as their school has undergone a full shutdown, with students primarily being integrated to Murwillumbah Learning Community High School.

Hutchies’ Statim Yaga Trade Pathways Program represents an exciting new chapter in vocational education, providing students with valuable insights and practical experiences that could shape their future careers in the construction industry.
