Hutchies was honoured to be appointed D&C contractor for the award-winning St Luke’s Green integrated retirement and aged care facility in Brisbane’s inner South.

Inspired by the desire to create a stronger community and social connectedness for residents, the development was centred — philosophically and physically — around the historic St Luke’s Catholic Church which forms the main conduit between residents and the surrounding community. As part of the revitalisation of the heritage listed building, stabilisation of the Church was required prior to the commencement of construction, including underpinning of parts of the perimeter footing system, with special attention to protecting it from vibration during the early basement excavation works.

Hutchies conducted a pre-construction value engineering process in which we proposed a re-engineered roof system that was ultimately adopted, delivering significant cost savings.

The project also included the relocation and refurbishment of an iconic Queenslander house, built around the early 1900s. The house had been home to the church clergy and members of the local congregation for many years. Now used as the Greengate Brisbane office and a sales office, there are plans to ultimately return it to the Church for reuse as a residence.

The completed facility comprises 61 separate one, two and three bedroom apartments specifically tailored for independent living and assisted living, as well as a 60-suite boutique aged care home. Set in stunning landscaped surrounds, all accommodation has expansive balconies and outstanding facilities and shared spaces. The entire facility is fresh and inviting and feels like home.

The project was completed on time, on budget and was very well received by the new owners, operators and occupants.
