Hutchies Modular is proud to be working with Studio Schools of Australia and the Bunuba community on the Manjali Studio School, part of a pioneering system of residential Studio Schools located on-country across the remote North. This initiative, that also incorporates an Indigenous Education and Research Centre (IERC), is co-led and co-designed with local communities to ensure Indigenous success.
Manjali Studio School, the second Studio School developed through the partnership between the Bunuba community and Studio Schools of Australia, is situated in the Kimberley on Bunuba country, approximately 10km from the existing Yiramalay Studio School. The 82 modules for Manjali Studio School are being prefabricated at Hutchies Modular’s Toowoomba yard in Queensland and transported 4,250km to the Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges in Western Australia.
The design of Manjali Studio School was the result of a detailed, highly interactive co-design process with the Bunuba community over the past two years. This process included five on-country co-design sessions with the Bunuba Dawangarri Aboriginal Corporation (BDAC) and other Bunuba Traditional Owners, including children. Together, they created a space that reflects the colours of the landscape and supports Studio Schools’ integrated learning model.
The school will feature a wetlab, dry lab, communal dining hall, welcome and administration area, student and staff housing, staff accommodation, and the IERC. The design of Manjali Studio School embodies the holistic learning framework of Studio Schools, balancing academic, personal, and industry / enterprise learning within the unique cultural context and language of the Studio School.
The new Manjali Studio School, catering to Years 7, 8, and 9, is a full boarding school on-country and is on track to open in 2025. The project is making significant progress and is set to provide a transformative educational experience for its students.
