We were engaged by Metro South Health to deliver an additional expansion to their critical subacute requirements with a fast tracked custom modular solution designed and built in house. Hutchies was involved from the initial project concept to produce the design with a cost plan which was then used for a detailed business case to fund the project. Due to the well prepared submission showing Metro South Health and Hutchies working closely together the project as able to extend the funding to include an extra 500m² second office level.
This project, Ward 2Q, is the second modular expansion Hutchies has completed on the Logan Hospital campus, following the successful completion of a similar facility, Ward 2M in 2019. Ward 2Q consists of 38 modules which were constructed off site in our quality controlled environment at Hutchies Modular's Yard in Yatala. Building this facility using a prefabrication approach protected the project from risks of weather, and labor or supply challenges, enabling us to deliver a consistently high quality project in record time and with minimal waste and disruption to the live hospital activities.
Due to the busy live environment, the modules were installed over a 3 night period where we used our combined modular and builder experience to incorporate the precast ready for the modular sequence.
The ground level of the two level facility has a variety of bed configurations, consisting of single, three, and four bedroom suites making up 28 bed spaces with access to staff and public facilities. The second floor consists of the administration office with an open plan area, and workstations, providing additional space for the hospital's staff and wider stakeholders.
MeganWood,CommissioningLead,LoganHospitalExpansionProject/ServiceExpansion,StrategyandPlanningHutchies' quality control identified crucial areas such as precision measurement techniques, material inspection and adherence to industry specific standards. With the expert knowledge of the Logan Hospital site and the key relationship foundations trusted and built, Hutchies has established themselves as leaders in transparency, trust and communication within the Logan Hospital and Redland Hospital campuses.
MurrayPocock,MaintenanceManagerFrom concept design, through user groups into detailed design, construct, delivery, fit out and defects liability period there has been a highly functioning relationship between Hutchies and the Metro South Health Maintenance and Project Teams on site. Interactions were inclusive of but not limited to site meetings, both formal and informal, factory visits to confirm design, build quality and functionality and extensive effort to integrate with some of the most complex upgrade projects undertaken on the Logan Hospital Campus.
