Matso'sBrewery

Hutchinson Builders is proud to deliver a new microbrewery and social space for Matso’s Sunshine Coast. The project involved the demolition of various built form additions while retaining the heritage pub as the street front façade for the new venue.

The design consists of four gable roof pavilions that support the integration between heritage and new. The brewery’s CHS steel structure was matched with bolted hardwood trusses that were fabricated in the Hutchies Sunshine Coast carpark to accelerate the onsite program.

Second stock blocks encompassing aesthetic blemishes, incorrect aggregate/pigment or part of a discontinued line were utilised throughout the build to generate use for blocks that would have otherwise been disposed of.

Corrugated iron roof sheets were salvaged from the existing buildings and repurposed as feature cladding on the brewery wall between the two buildings. The main bar highlights the initiative to use excess concrete from other pours in the project to build a practical structure.

The venue brings new life to the area while still featuring Queensland’s heritage. Hutchinson Builders enjoyed the fast paced build while working with Good Drinks, consultants and subcontractors.
